N287TB has a built in Oxygen system ! The advantage is that you can monitor it on the MFD and the reservoir is bigger than a portable However like all oxygen systems there is a huge amount of waste. Using cannulae to some extent slows up wastage but N287TB has an additional regulator which allows it to connect to a Mountain High 2 place pulse Oxymiser. Remember that the built in system is a ‘Precision Flight’ product. Of course no two suppliers of systems talk to each other, but the kit in N287TB is recognised as a good way of doing things. The Mountain High OxyMiser is recognised as one of the best pulse oxygen delivery systems and it is good to get it to ‘talk’ to the Precision Flight built in system. The Built in system might give some 4-6 hours for 2 people but with the pulse system this can be as much as 16 hours Also to avoid tubes all over the place I have made one section which connects either
- the oxyboom on the headset (personalised for John and Maggie)
- a cannula
- the blue face masks with microphone (intended for >18,000ft
the tubing from any one of these terminates in a bayonet fitting which must then be connected to the length of tubing which connects to the Oxymiser which itself has a female bayonet fitting. In this way cannulae, oxybooms or microphone face masks can be swapped out The non bayonet end of this connector length end in a straight relatively hard bit of plastic tube faintly coloured blue. This should be pushed into one of the blue holes on the OxyMiser itself. With your fingers press down on the blue collar of the OxyMiser and the plastic tube should slide in smoothly. ditto for taking it out The length of tune with the regulator has a fitting compatible with the Cirrus Oxygen ceiling fitting. Carefully push this steel/rubber connector into one of the ceiling sockets. There are 4 for 4 place oxygen but it doesnt matter which one you put it in The other end of this tube also ends in a faintly red coloured bit of hard plastic and is inserted in the same way as the blue connectors to the Oxyboom or Cannula There is a blue connector with suitable bayonet in the pockets by your ankle – pilot on left passenger on right. The regulator length can be found in the passenger side right front pocket The oxymiser lives in centre console and is powered by 3 AA batteries. It is switched on by turning the knob to an appropriate setting. The yellow settings are for flight levels and face mask using continuous flow. The D settings are ‘on demand’ Teh N is for ‘Now’ or ‘nightime’ connection to manual here Mountain High O2D2
On the left is a cannula but not one with the bayonet fitting. This one, simply don and then push the blue end into the oxymiser The only point in breaking the pipe an dputting in a bayonet fitting is that Masks, oxybooms an dcannula are all interchangeable
